creating biodiverse habitats

why biodiversity and native plants in our gardens matter

Every living thing on earth is part of the web of life, including us!

plants + insects + birds + mammals have been living together and supporting

the web of life for thousands of years.

When we consider ourselves + our gardens as  an essential part of the whole ecosystem, we are helping sustain our lives and all the lives around us.

Only native plants provide the caterpillars needed by 96% of bird species to feed their young. Chickadee babies, for example, need between 6-9,000 caterpillars before they take flight.  Please plant native trees and shrubs that provide food for the babies. Only 5% of the plants make up 75% of the food sources, so make sure you have some of these in your backyard.

Many of our more manicured and pesticide laden yards are virtual deserts to our native wildlife and pollinators.  The food web becomes broken and life can’t survive.

What I offer

An initial site visit to determine what could work in your garden to increase biodiversity. This takes an average of 1-2 hours

I am looking at your soil type + I determine the amount of sun/shade your garden has in different areas on your property

We discuss what you want from your garden and the amount of time you wish to spend or pay someone else to care for your garden.

I choose plants based on our visit and your wishes for visual and maintenance of garden desires.

I return to your garden and we walk the garden and discuss what I have chosen and determine placement. I also offer references for soil preparation, local nurseries + native plant resources +

I will provide written instructions and helpful tips to insure your gardens flourish!
